Courtyard Garden – Shirehampton
Report
The clients of this courtyard garden Shirehampton wanted a radical transformation to give them somewhere for relaxation after work and on weekends.
A series of intimate spaces was created by interconnecting and stand alone raised beds.
Stepping out of the kitchen-diner a composite deck adjoins the house where a built-in bench of composite decking nestles between raised beds.
Here, herbs are planted for ease of access and scented climbers are trained up the wall behind.
A step up leads to a secondary raised deck where a trio of slate planters sit atop a low wall.
Townhouse Family Garden – Redland
Report
After renovation of this Redland townhouse in Bristol, attention turned to a generously sized but under utilised family garden.
The over-riding issue to address was access from the internal kitchen-diner to the garden.
A narrow area, only a metre in depth, separated the house wall and one metre high retaining garden wall.
This greatly impeded access, views and light.
The main part of the garden had to be reached via steep, fairly narrow steps.
Divided into two levels, the garden had been used by the family for play, storage and dining.
Courtyard Garden – Redland
Report
The house in Redland was due to be renovated with the client wanting to create a courtyard garden that complimented the internal spaces.
Two rooms would over look the space and so it was important to maintain year-round appearance whilst also building a highly practical space for the family including young children.
Cedar clad walls and a wall of glazing form two sides of the garden.
The boundaries are a combination of corten weathering steel panels and vertical cedar fencing.
A substantial cedar bench runs almost the entire width of the garden and is integrated with the raised planters.
Plant Lover’s Garden – Bedminster
Report
Key in this plant lover's garden was to incorporate as many of the existing plants as possible.
All weather solutions were also important giving flexibility to enjoy the garden come rain or come shine.
The side return and main terrace are both paved in riven slate.
The main terrace is the perfect spot to capture the morning sun.
A wooden potting shed with built-in log store provide storage for garden tools.
Herb planters will give the clients easy access when required.
A metal trellis is attached the the wall with another existing, scented rose trained up it.
