MacColl & Stokes Landscaping - Milngavie Garden Spotlight
A private garden retreat in Milngavie, north of Glasgow, thoughtfully crafted in 2020 with uncompromising quality at its heart. This space is defined by refined detailing, premium materials, and a calm, layered planting scheme designed to mature beautifully over time.
At the centre sits a truly bespoke feature: a handcrafted bench, carefully coped and fixed with stainless steel, topped with a Scottish oak arbor. It is a place to pause, framed by soft grasses, elegant maples, hybrid Azaleas, delicate amelanchiers, and silver birch stretching into the distance, creating depth, movement, and seasonal interest.
The planting tells its own story. Select plants have been carefully removed and others reintroduced, while others were added to enhance structure and flow. One standout feature is the cloud pruned Ilex chosen personally by the client, now flourishing after four to five years, beautifully framed by silver birch and wrapped in classic box hedging.
Every detail has been considered. From the S3i railings with stainless steel wire protecting the basement level, to Scottish oak posts, a Scottish slate roof, and Kithnest stone walls that anchor the garden in its surroundings. The result is a space where craftsmanship and materials work in quiet harmony.
This project reflects what happens when clients trust the process and insist on the highest standards. Quality, precision, and attention to detail that truly stands the test of time.
We love to re visit gardens year on year and they only get better with age.
MacColl & Stokes Landscaping - Bridge of Weir Garden Spotlight
A garden reclaimed from the slope in Bridge of Weir, this once steep and unusable garden was transformed into a series of beautifully connected, level spaces designed to be enjoyed at every turn. Thoughtful terracing created practical lawn plateaus, while fine stonewalling and carefully placed feature boulders now anchor the landscape naturally into its setting.
Define stone paired with grey promenade sandstone gives the steps and pathways a timeless, grounded feel. As you move through the garden, a hidden greenhouse area emerges like a secret retreat, framed by informal boulder steps, richly planted borders, and productive vegetable beds.
Three years on, its a pleasure to return and see how the garden has matured and how well its been cared for. A space shaped by land, stone, and craftsmanship, built to stand the test of time.

MacColl & Stokes Landscaping - Newton Mearns Garden Spotlight
This family garden perfectly balances craftsmanship, comfort, and character from the locally reclaimed stone walls with chunky copes, to the 800x800 paving slabs to the gorgeous planting this garden is a show stopper.
Designed with an exceptional vision and planting specification by Mhairi Auld, and complemented with materials from @marshallsgroup @westminsterstone @vubaresinproducts @talaseyltd
The big stone man (inukshuk) was requested to be built by the clients. Its looks great especially when lit in the evening. A timeless example of how thoughtful design and quality materials create gardens that will only get better user on year.
MacColl & Stokes Landscaping - Carbeth Garden Spotlight
A beautifully designed garden with something for all the family to enjoy. Featuring buff porcelain paving with grey contrasting corner and broad paths in keeping with a garden of this scale, we safely transplanted a Georgia mature acer to create a feature within the new lawn, smart zones for play, planting, and outdoor living. This project shows how proportion, thoughtful materials, and balanced greenery, even alongside artificial grass for year round activities, create a space that feels natural, functional, and built to get better with age.
We also crafted a bespoke outdoor covered area using chunky 10-inch posts, Scottish slate, and light-filtering cladding a great example of how the right scale and detailing can turn a practical feature into a true focal point.

The team worked wonders on our garden. What used to feel overwhelming and overgrown is now a beautifully organised, easy-to-maintain space that we genuinely enjoy spending time in. The few tweaks we asked for to the original plan were taken on board without any fuss, and we were thrilled with the plant selections for the new borders. They were tidy, professional, and a pleasure to have around. Wed happily recommend them to anyone.

Very pleased with the work by MacColl & Stokes in our garden including new patio, restoration of some previous paving and a new lawn. The end of result is great, but what really stood out was the professionalism and hard work, flexibility to make some changes and addition to our plans, and willingness to address a couple of small issues at the end without question. Definitely recommend.

Very pleased with the excellent work done to make my complicated sloping garden easier to manage. Terracing and paving were done to a very high standard and I was most impressed by the hardworking and friendly workforce. The site was left very tidy, probably in better condition than it was before the work started. Very happy to recommend.

Awesome job!! I finally have a garden after 13 yrs I can use.
I did my due diligence on this company as I had been burnt by bad tradesmen in the past.
I have nothing but praise fur the job they have done.
Any minor issues sorted without fuss or hassle.
Hard working, competent and respectful employees.
They leave your garden clean every night. Turn up on time. Work really hard.
If my dear mum was still here I would let them work in her garden with zero concerns.
Highly recommend

We are very pleased with the building of a garden retaining wall which is 12 metres long by 1.8 metres high. It was built to reinforce the existing old wall which was beginner to lean over. We also had new stairs built to the lower garden area renewed and a wooden fence was reinstated above the new wall. It was a labour intensive project because there was no access for machinery. We were very happy with the final result and by all the workers involved who cleaned up the site very well and protected the garden and front drive where the materials were delivered. We have no hesitation in recommending MacColl & Stokes for groundworks. A good job well done. Many thanks.
